Sand T Kalloch recently completed a major commissioned project entitled "Thousand Springs” for Marina One in Marina South, Singapore.
“Thousand Springs”, is an extensive wall installation comprised of 80 panels of low relief (each panel measured at 91.44cm x 91.44cm or 36inx36in ) that span over 70 meters (230 feet) covering two curved walls A1 and A4 at the ground level. It is the largest and longest permanently installed wall installation in Singapore opened to the public since January 15, 2018.
This wall installation symbolizes the unified relationship between Singapore and Malaysia and how varying elements can join together to yield a harmonious outcome. Inspired by nature, the artistic goal behind “Thousand Springs” is to bring the outdoors inside, given that the tactile surface formed of cured resin droplets resemble that of falling water droplets. As pedestrians move alongside the “water-beaded” colorfully luminous panels, they will experience a sequence of animated reflected light; the ever-changing reflections project both into and reflect out of the artworks.
The lush greenery facing both Curved Walls creates an ideal location to integrate artwork to enhance the pedestrian experience. Vivid colors, elements of nature, and the falling water droplets echo within the public area leading to the Green Heart.
While the visual aesthetic entails the interplay of contrary visual elements such as point, line, plane, color and light to create a balanced harmonious impression, “Thousand Springs” is designed to underscore a message of integration by the unity of varying visual elements that celebrate the harmonious collaboration of both Malaysia and Singapore.
